One young Cardiff supporter lost as jittery Cardiff gifted West Ham the win 06/05/2012

Cardiff City 0 West Ham United 2, Play-off semi-final, 1st leg
Our hopes of reaching the Premier League this season are sadly all but over after the 0-2 home defeat agianst West Ham on Thursday, and the worst thing about that is that keeping my seven year old son a Cardiff supporter seems a lost cause.

Yet another draw, our sixteenth in the Championship this season, and another missed opportunity to get back into the Play Off places with other teams still amazingly failing to finish our hopes off.

Cardiff City 0 Burnley 0
Before Sunday’s match against Burnley, Malky Mackay stated, in the same vain as his predecessor Dave Jones liked to do, that there’ll be many “twists and turns” from now until the end of the season. Hopefully he’s right, because the dull 0-0 draw against Burnley and failure to go fourth does not bode well for the remaining nine games. It sadly seems that City have gone from energetic overachievers to now being tired underperformers.

After two successive defeats it was great to get back on track with the 3-1 win against Peterborough midweek, but is there enough steam left to keep up the challenge for promotion in the remaining 15 Championship matches?

Watford 1 Cardiff City 1
Over the last few matches we’ve gone from an impressive eleven games unbeaten run having kept four clean sheets in a row to now being without a win in the last three matches and having conceded four goals in the last two matches. Is the tide turning, or are we simply experiencing an understandable, temporary slump?

Cardiff City 2 Middlesbrough 3
With our great current form and long unbeaten run I’d forgotten how much it hurts to lose… Having gone from 1-0 down to 2-1 up before half time I really thought we’d win this match, but even with these points lost and City slipping down to fifth in the table I’m keeping the faith. We’re still promotion contenders!

The players must have forgot we’ve entered November yesterday as they convincingly brushed aside Derby!

Both Leicester City and Cardiff City have the ambition to win promotion to the Premier League as soon as possible. It’s in the understanding of “as soon as possible” that there seems to be a huge difference between the owners of the two clubs after Leicester have sacked Sven-Göran “Svennis” Eriksson just 13 games into the season and only one year after his appointment.

Cardiff City 1 Burnley 0, League Cup 4th round
During the second half of the League Cup match against Burnley yesterday, it hit me that I could not remember a single season in my 23 seasons as a Cardiff supporter that we had progressed very far in this tournament. Quick research showed that my memory didn’t serve me quite right. Actually we’ve progressed a few rounds in the last ten years, but since we last were in the quarter finals 46 years ago our League Cup runs have tended to be very short.

Cardiff City 2 Ipswich Town 2
Peterborough United 4 Cardiff City 3
On Saturday Michael Chopra – not surprisingly – made a goal scoring return to Cardiff with his new team Ipswich, and we were lucky to get a draw thanks to a dubious penalty decision after having fallen behind 1-2 in the second half. Two seasons ago we surrendered a 4-0 half time lead to let Peterborough back into the game and score four goals in the second half to make it 4-4. On Tuesday we twice had the lead at London Road, and went 3-2 up with just eleven minutes remaining, but we still couldn’t hang on to it. Devastating.
